UWEC Update to the Campus Community

The University-Wide Enterprise Computing (UWEC) Subcommittee presented the final report on the Campus Email and Personal Calendaring Life-Cycle Review last week during a joint meeting with the Information Technology Planning and Advisory Committee (ITPAC).

The UWEC recommendation outlined many issues raised by the campus during the review process and identified 3 options for product combinations, each with the potential to provide a shared messaging and personal calendaring system for the entire campus community. The committee members discussed the merit of each option and its potential to support the future direction of the campus. The resulting ITPAC recommendation to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is to implement Microsoft Exchange for staff and faculty integrated with Zimbra for students.

What's Next: The CIO will present the UWEC report and the ITPAC recommendation to the Provost and Cabinet, and over the next few weeks, the campus administration will evaluate if the investment in a new system is warranted by strategic objectives. A preliminary project plan will be developed and evaluated for 2008-09 implementation.

Watch for Updates. Meanwhile, the UWEC invites you to review the full process documentation on the website:
