New FirstClass Client Available

We have posted a new FirstClass client, version 9.104, on our website and we recommend that all users upgrade. It is the same easy to use FirstClass client, only better. Check the version of the client on your machine:

  • Windows. Help Menu> About FirstClass Client (version will be displayed in the window that opens)
  • Mac OS X. FirstClass Menu> About FirstClass Client (version will be displayed in the window that opens)

On Monday, March 3rd, we will begin version control and require client version 9.0 or newer to login to FirstClass.

Some of the new features included in 9.104 are:

Enhanced Spell Checking

The spell check feature has been enhanced to check the spelling of fields in the message envelope (aka Subject) in addition to the message body content.

Calendars Printing

The calendar printing options of Week View and Today List View have been completely redone in this release to address many customer requests for style and formatting enhancements. Also included with these two calendar printing formats is an option for including tasks and punch-through calendar items.

Auto-deletion of Empty Messages

If a user creates a new message and then closes it without making any changes, the message is automatically deleted. This applies to new empty messages, new reply messages and new forwarded messages.

Primary Email Address Display

Each user's primary email address is now displayed in the summary bar in the Mailbox view.

Enhanced Calendar Import/Export

Support has been added in for importing and exporting .ics calendar items.

Message Auto-reply Management

If a user has an auto-reply message currently active they will see a small popup window appear in the bottom right corner of their screen each time they connect to their FirstClass server. This popup window will automatically disappear after a few seconds. While the popup window is displayed it offers a shortcut that enables the user to turn off their auto-reply by simply clicking the appropriate button.

Searching

The Quick Search feature that was introduced in FirstClass 9.0 is now available on all container toolbars by default. Also, a keyboard shortcut and a menu choice have been added for this feature to enable power users to quickly access this popular feature without requiring the use of the mouse.

Support for Bullets

The FirstClass document editor now provides the ability to apply bullets to text. This option can be selected from the  toolbar or the Format menu.

Enhanced Web Interface

The FirstClass Enhanced Web Interface is designed to deliver a user interface that is similar to that of the FirstClass Client. This makes it an ideal choice for use by FirstClass Client users when they only have access to a web browser (such as in an internet cafe or a web kiosk). In FirstClass 9.1, the Enhanced Web Interface has been significantly improved through an extensive application of AJAX technology to now deliver many more client-like capabilities. To see and use the enhanced web interface, you need to change your personal preferences from within the FirstClass client by going to the Edit Menu> Preferences> Web Tab>Web client interface>FirstClass Enhanced
