Configuring your FirstClass Private Conference to accept Internet email (Mail from off-campus)

A FirstClass private conference allows incoming mail to come to a central location for a specified group to answer, rather than a single person's email account. One of the benefits is that you can use a general address instead of specific one (i.e. conference_name@csumb.edu), reducing clutter and spam in an individual's mailbox.

In order to receive mail from outside FirstClass, you need to configure your private conference with a mail alias:

1) Highlight your private conference and select Permissions from the Collaborate menu.

2) From the new Permissions window that opens, click on the Directory button.

3) In the Alias field, fill in the name of the conference with the name of the
conference followed by the traditional @csumb.edu. In this example I have a conference called software and the alias is software@csumb.edu.

If your conference does not have a mail alias, it will not receive email from the internet. This may be a good thing if you only use the conference internally.
