Year-end department funded computer purchases

Departments that are planning year-end computer orders should do so as soon as possible to avoid the last-minute rush.

The installation of any new department funded computer purchases will be balanced against our service priority, the completion of the Computer Replacement Program, which includes the upgrade of nearly 200 lab and classroom computers.

Summer lab and classroom hardware upgrades coming

IT will be busy this summer with computer and RAM upgrades in labs and classrooms across the campus.

Current Service Level Priorities

As the academic year comes to an end, IT is making every effort to finish several ambitious projects and prepare the campus for the new Summer Arts program and Fall classes. In order to ensure that IT@CSUMB.EDU can complete work on time we have prioritized our current workload:

1) Installing nearly 300 new computers for staff and faculty as part of the Computer Replacement Program.

Fall 2012 Lab Software Review (LSR) Deadline is April 1st

The Lab Software Review is a joint process sponsored by Technology Support Services in cooperation with the Faculty Senate Technology Committee and the Center for Academic Technologies (CAT). The purpose of the review is to establish software content for academic computing labs at CSUMB.

The Fall 2012 Review is an update to software standards established in previous lab loadsets.

Web Help Desk getting updated look

On the morning of Wednesday, February 15th, we are making a change to the Client interface for Web Help Desk, the service request system used by Information Technology. Things will work exactly as they did before, but the colors and layout will better match other CSUMB websites.

CNI Network Upgrades @ CSUMB - Spring 2012

Attention all Faculty and Staff at CSUMB:

This spring the CSU System's Common Network Infrastructure (CNI) project is coming to the CSUMB Campus to refresh/replace our building network switches. This will mean network disruption to each building, in some cases more than once, in order to replace the electronics that serve each building, including the wireless networks.

DNS Changer malware detected on East Campus network

We have confirmed that a number of computers connected to the East Campus residential network are infected with malware known as DNSChanger. If your machine is infected, the malware can control what sites you connect to on the internet and potentially direct you to a fraudulent website.

Understanding the new Google Privacy Policy

On March 12, 2012, Google will combine 60 different privacy policies across all Google services into one policy. There has been an increasing amount of press covering this announcement and some questions have started to come in to the help desk that we thought many people might have about their CSUMB accounts.

Library classroom teacher station computer changes for Spring 2012

The Library classroom teacher station computers in 508-1170, 1173, 1176, 1180, 1128 and 2145 are now set to automatically go to Windows.

If you want to use Mac OS on these machines, restart the machine and hold down the option key until you see this screen and then select MacOS.
