CSUMB provides different services to a person depending on their role (s) within the University. Services are created, changed or discontinued when your role changes and are done so without advanced notification. Changes to services typically take 24-hours from when a role changes.

Applicant
  • When a person applies for admission to a program at CSUMB, they become an Applicant unless they are currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • They remain an Applicant until they either matriculate or the term has started that they applied for.
  • If they matriculate, they become a Student.
  • If they do not matriculate, they remain an Applicant until two weeks after the semi-annual census occurs at which point they become De-Provisioned.
Student
  • An Applicant becomes a Student when the are accepted and matriculate.
  • A Student remains a Student until they graduate, drop out or are dismissed.
  • If a Student has not enrolled in any courses during the current or previous term, their role changes two weeks after Census (20th day of instruction for the fall and spring semesters) to Inactive, then to De-Provisioned.
  • If a Student has been dismissed or drops out, their role changes to De-Provisioned.
  • Students in the CalStateTEACH program will only have access to CMS (CMS Only).
  • If a Student graduates, they become Graduated for 180-days, then change to De-Provisioned.
  • If you leave CSUMB, it is your responsibility to save any important work you have stored on CSUMB servers.
Graduated
  • If a Student graduates, they become Graduated for 180-days, then change to De-Provisioned.
  • If you leave CSUMB, it is your responsibility to save any important work you have stored on CSUMB servers.
  • Students that graduate and join the CSUMB Alumni Association are Alumni and can keep their MyCSUMB/MyMessaging accounts. Alumni accounts are requested and managed through the CSUMB Alumni Association.
Alumni (CSUMB Alumni Association members)
  • If a Student graduates, they become Graduated for 180-days, then change to De-Provisioned.
  • Students that graduate and join the CSUMB Alumni Association are Alumni and can keep their MyCSUMB/MyMessaging accounts. Alumni accounts are requested and managed through the CSUMB Alumni Association.
  • If an Alumni membership expires, their role changes to De-Provisioned.
Faculty, Staff & Volunteer Accounts
  • New accounts should be requested through an account service request by the new employees manager or someone designated by the manager to perform this duty.
  • Be sure to include first name, last name, 8-digit date of birth, Employee ID and OtterID in the request. After the accounts are created, you can change your default password by visiting http://id.csumb.edu
  • We cannot create accounts for new employees until their have completed their HR paperwork or have a complete record in CMS and have an OtterID. All employees, including volunteers and temporary workers, must be processed by Human Resource. Questions related to volunteer and temporary workers should be directed to Human Resources.
  • When an employee appears on the Separated Employees Report, all accounts will be suspended on the last day on campus and deleted on the date of separation. Their is no grace period after separation.
  • If you leave CSUMB it is your responsibility to save any important work you have stored on CSUMB servers before your last official day at CSUMB. If your department requires access to any of this work, they should work this out with the employee before your last official day at CSUMB. When an account is deleted, all spreadsheets, documents and presentations owned by that account will no longer be accessible by collaborators and viewers. Confirming your role

You can confirm your role within the University by logging into the CSUMB Identity Management system.

Account Name Change

If you would like to change your account name, please contact the Campus Service Center to have your name officially changed in CMS.

Once your have submitted the proper paperwork and your name has been changed, you need to submit an IT Account Activation/Change service request. Be sure to include your OtterID, new and old name for verification. We cannot change your name until it is changed in CMS and we cannot change your OtterID.
